One particular officer, Commander Nikolai, forms a close bond with Sergey, treating him like a son. He ensures the boy is fed, clothed, and protected as best as possible in a war zone.

3. Becoming a "Soldier"

Though just a child, Sergey quickly integrates into the life of the regiment. He assists the soldiers in small ways, such as delivering messages, boosting morale, and even distracting enemies during combat. Despite the horrors around him, he remains brave, cheerful, and eager to help.

The soldiers, who have become like a family to him, eventually decide to make him an honorary soldier. He is given a small uniform, further cementing his place in the unit.

4. War and Sacrifice

The film does not shy away from showing the realities of war. Sergey witnesses battles, losses, and destruction firsthand. At one point, he is injured during an attack, highlighting the dangers of his unusual life.

Despite everything, he remains strong, proving that even in the darkest times, hope and resilience can shine through.

5. The War Ends, But the Memories Remain

The film concludes with the war coming to an end. Sergey, now older, must adjust to life after war. Though he is no longer surrounded by his soldier "family," their influence has shaped him forever.

The real-life Sergey Aleshkov went on to become a lawyer, but his childhood as a soldier remained a defining part of his life.
