H2O: Just Add Water is an Australian teen fantasy TV series that aired from 2006 to 2010. The show follows three teenage girls—Cleo Sertori (Phoebe Tonkin), Emma Gilbert (Claire Holt), and Rikki Chadwick (Cariba Heine)—who unexpectedly transform into mermaids after getting trapped in a magical pool on Mako Island. Upon discovering that they turn into mermaids whenever they touch water and have unique abilities, they must find a way to balance their normal lives while keeping their secret safe.

The series ran for three seasons with a total of 78 episodes. There were cast changes in Season 3 when Emma left, and Bella Hartley (Indiana Evans) joined as a new mermaid.

The first season focuses on Cleo, Emma, and Rikki discovering their mermaid abilities:

Season 1 mainly explores their friendship and how they learn to control their powers while dealing with typical teenage issues like love, school, and family.

In Season 2, the trio further develops their powers:

• Cleo gains the ability to control wind.
• Emma can create more complex ice formations.
• Rikki can generate electricity.

A new character, Charlotte Watsford (Brittany Byrnes), appears. She is ambitious and eager to become a mermaid herself. When Charlotte falls into the Moon Pool, she transforms into a mermaid and gains all three powers, making her a major threat to the group. She tries to dominate them and break Cleo and Lewis's relationship.

By the end of Season 2, the girls successfully defeat Charlotte and restore balance.

At the start of Season 3, Emma leaves the group as her family moves abroad. A new girl, Bella Hartley, joins them. Bella is also a mermaid and has the ability to create water crystals.

This season revolves around the appearance of a mysterious entity on Mako Island, known as the "Comet Water Tentacle," which threatens the mermaids. Additionally, Rikki and Zane's relationship becomes strained as Zane becomes more ambitious and tries to exploit Mako Island’s power for personal gain.

By the end, Cleo, Rikki, and Bella work together to protect their secret and defeat the dark forces surrounding Mako Island.
